Dell’Arte’s Professional Training Program proudly presents Commedia Showcase:
LIL MOJO RETURNS.
“To Revolt against Escapism, we must return to our roots.”
LIL MOJO RETURNS, created by the students of the 2021-22 Professional Training Program, is the zany farcical story of an uprising. The Zanni, the servant class of the Commedia Dell’Arte, have had enough of the corrupt patriarchal rule of President John D. Magnifico and his regime. His daughter Rosa (Lil Mojo), the people’s choice, is inspired to lead them to a new enlightened, joyous, and unified world society. President Magnifico, in terror that he is losing popularity, scratches desperately to maintain control. Meanwhile, Dottore runs down the economy, Capitano is mismanaging the Military Industrial Complex, and Ruffiana Rag is grappling with the country’s out of control social media! Masks, mayhem, live music, magical ethos, revolution, and madness abound in this parade of human folly and enthusiastic revolt.
Commedia Dell’Arte meets Superdrama! Known by its distinct masked character “types,” improvisational play, musicality, acrobatics, and a bold, presentational style, Commedia Dell’Arte meets and smashes with Superdrama, a contemporary and complementary re-imagining of the centuries-old form. Performances are high octane, over-the-top, bawdy, musical, physical, and involve themes that may be a little spicy for young kids. Laugh all you want as the Dell’Arte PTP ensemble navigates this audacious terrain.
