Explore creating physical characters using the principles of the Mask in this workshop with Dell’Arte International faculty Julie Douglas.

At Dell’Arte, a mask is more than just a face covering – it is a scaffolding on which to build a character. It can be an image, a costume, an object, or text – any structure that inspires and informs character development and also requires you to support what it proposes. In this two day workshop you will be introduced to mask technique applied in different forms to create character. You will learn how to let the mask lead, build characters from the outside in with techniques drawn from Dell’Arte’s decades of research.

Hosted by Trash Mash-Up, CounterPulse’s House Artist and the Dell’Arte alumni team of Bridget and Jessica McCracken, this workshop is part of CounterPulse’s House Artist program, which supports boundary-pushing, community-driven artists who create socially engaged and interdisciplinary work.
