We also have courses for our larger community with Dell'Arte faculty and guest instructors.  Register now for Yoga with Miguel, Mask Making with Everyday Materials,  Intro to the Alexander Technique, Ground Your Flow, or Sing Your Heart Out. Ground Your Flow - Movement Class

6:00–8:00pm Tuesdays   -  8 sessions

Welcome all movers! Drawing inspiration from Capoeira and contemporary dance improvisation practice, students will find new pathways in their bodies to create, express, and move through space. This class will weave together primal/functional movement, floorwork, partnering, and elemental flow to support students in accessing greater freedom, dynamism, and creativity in their expressive movement.

Mestre Espaço is a Brazilian Capoeirista, Dancer, and Mover, who has dedicated his life to the art of Capoeira since he was 18 years old. He trained, taught, and performed in his hometown of Sao Paulo before cycling for two years, pedaling through 10 countries and over 12,000 miles to California, with the purpose of studying at Capoeira schools all along the journey. He has taught Capoeira in organizations throughout the Bay Area and formed his own academy in Petaluma where he taught for twelve years. He is now based in Humboldt, teaching here at Dell'Arte International and at his own local academy. Learn more at capoeiraazania.com.

Intro to The Alexander Technique

Alexander Technique is a somatic mindfulness practice that brings awareness, release of tension, and ease of movement to those who practice it. In this class we will explore tools that you can apply to everyday life to ease stress in the body and improve coordination. The activities in this class will be low impact and meet the students where they are at. Students will practice means of recognizing and undoing habitual patterns that get in the way of natural movement, finding more flexibility and choice. You can expect to find improved alignment and efficiency of movement as you strengthen the mind-body connection. 

Julie Douglas is Head of Arts Engagement and full-time faculty at Dell’Arte International.. Previously, while living in the Bay Area, she was on faculty at American Conservatory Theater in their MFA, SFS, and Studio A.C.T. programs and on faculty at St. Mary’s College as well as a teaching-artist with a variety of Bay Area schools and companies. Julie is a 2010 graduate of the Dell’Arte MFA program where her love of the Alexander Technique began. She has been studying in the AT teacher training program at Soma Studios in Minneapolis for the past 5 years, continually deeping its use in her life and teaching. She is excited to bring this accessible and freeing technique to the community.

Mask Making with Everyday Materials

5:30–7:30pm Thursdays   -  8 sessions
January 11- March 7, 2023  (no class February 15)

Cost:  $200, supplies included  

Enter the transformational world of masks and learn how to make a wearable character mask with ordinary materials.  In this class, participants will learn concepts and techniques to make a 3D mask that has  pop and play, explore how to shape facial features, and register them to your own face. Each participant will end the class with a ready-to-wear mask.  NOTE: This class will occur in our Mask Studio on Taylor Way, behind the Mad River Taproom.

Tony Fuemmeler is a theater artist exploring transformation, expression, and story through masks and puppetry. Tony has designed & created masks for numerous theaters and schools around the country. His studies and research in mask theater have  also led him to Bali, and Italy. He was privileged to travel to Mumbai in 2014 to create masks for Teach For India’s MAYA musical.  Tony is a graduate of the University of Kansas and the  Dell’Arte Professional Training Program and is the Head of Training at Dell’Arte.

Yoga with Miguel

10:00–11:30  Saturdays  - 8 sessions

Cost:  $110 all class  package / $10-15 sliding scale drop in

A Hatha Yoga class approachable for all skill levels. We will incorporate applied yoga anatomy and muscle activation (A.Y.A.M.A.™) technique to improve the body’s stability and to increase strength and balance in our mind and body. Expect a good playlist rounded out by an extended Savasana.

Miguel first discovered yoga as a teenager as a means for conditioning his body for competitive swimming. After practicing yoga for two decades and feeling the healing effects it had on his mind and body, Miguel felt a calling to deepen his practice by becoming a certified yoga teacher. He traveled to the rain forests of Costa Rica to undertake the 200 hr yoga training program with Yogi Aaron at Blue Osa on the Osa Peninsula. Miguel's training focused on honoring traditional yoga philosophy  as well as understanding anatomy and A.Y.A.M.A.™ technique. Miguel hopes to reach people who are new to yoga and those who are seeking out a gentler practice.

Sing Your Heart Out

Discover the art of singing with unwavering confidence and learn the secrets to becoming a karaoke sensation. Whether you're a beginner aspiring to make your vocal debut or someone seeking expert guidance to enhance your singing prowess, Sing Your Heart Out will help unlock your full potential.

In this class, participants will be selecting and performing individual songs with a friendly group of like-minded students, all looking to better their performance skills and increase their confidence.  Students will work on optimizing song selections, elevating their showmanship skills, and enhancing vocal control.

David Powell is a classically trained vocalist, theatre maker, storyteller, a lifelong student of the theatre, and a force on the karaoke mic. He holds a B.A. in Music performance with an emphasis in opera at Cal Poly Humboldt, and an M.F.A. from Dell’Arte International. While expanding his career in New York he completed several postgraduate programs specializing in opera, most notably performing at Lincoln Center, the Symphony Space, and the Columbia Masters theatre festival. David has taught in New York and Philadelphia and for over a decade has created new works that toured across California with the Dell’Arte Company.
