In the workshop we will explore, through masks, the Commedia Dell’ Arte archetypal characters. These characters show us, in a comical and powerful way, human characteristics such as greed, vanity, pride, avarice, etc., or deep feelings such as love, sadness or anger—all intensely, all very physically. Actors will work on finding the precision of gesture, movement and gaze in the workshop.

Exploring Commedia Dell’ Arte is discovering in oneself the most primary and revealing human features, and at the same time, it’s playing, laughing and letting our creativity fly based on the humans that we are, beautiful and terrible humans. In the workshop we will explore, through masks, the Commedia Dell’ Arte archetypal characters. These characters show us, in a comical and powerful way, human characteristics such as greed, vanity, pride, avarice, etc., or deep feelings such as love, sadness or anger—all intensely, all very physically. Actors will work on finding the precision of gesture, movement and gaze in the workshop. 

This workshop is best for performers with at least a basic level in physical theater. Wear comfortable clothes you can move in, and bring a covered water bottle.

ABOUT CARLOS

Carlos Gallegos is an actor, teacher, playwright and theater director. He studied in the United States (Dell’Arte International), France (Jacques Lecoq International School and Le Samovar Clown School) among others. In 2002, after working with several companies combining theater, circus and physical theater, he founded Teatro de la Vuelta. For seven years he performed the solo project “Around the world in 80 months”. He has performed, directed and taught theater on five continents.

Carlos has been the instructor of more than 200 workshops in Europe, America, Africa and Asia. From 2019 to 2021 he was on faculty at Dell’Arte International. Carlos has also  taught at: Humboldt State University, California State Summer School for the Arts, East Tennessee State University and University of South Carolina (U.S.A), Cirque d’Orge and Loly Circus (France), Escola de Clown de Barcelona and Laboratorio 11 filas (Spain), Phare Ponleu Selpak Circus (Cambodia), Conservatory El Barco (Costa Rica), National Theater School (Uruguay) among others.
