In February, Faculty member Laura Muñoz completed her third year as “tallerista” (workshop leader) at the FITU (Festival Internacional de Teatro Universitario) in the UNAM, in Mexico City. The workshop titled: Physical Theater: The Rhythmic Body in the Dynamic Space, was a rigorous investigation of the resonant body projecting into the space of the stage, a dramatic space that is voluminous, malleable and transformative. The work culminated in a showing of original scenes created in the workshop.
The festival included works from university companies from all over Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Canada and China, which was the guest country. Says Muñoz “In these 3 years that I have had the fortune of attending I have seen considerable growth in the variety of proposals, the number of attendees, and the level of the workshops offered by, mostly, international guests. People from Argentina, China, Greece, Germany, Canada and the US/Spain made up the guest faculty. There was a strong academic component paired with great hunger from the students for the physical work and play that physical theatre offers.”
