On the landmark occasion of the first year of legalized marijuana in California, The Dell’Arte Company is excited to announce that Mary Jane: A Musical Potumentary will now be available to the world on VOD 4.20 from Green Apple Entertainment.
Mary Jane: A Musical Potumentary is presented in widescreen with an aspect ratio of 16×9 (1.78) and Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0 and is available on Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, DISH/ Sling TV, DirecTV, FandangoNow, Xbox, VUDU and more coming shortly!
To commemorate this occasion, Dell’Arte will be organizing a release party on 4/20 (April 20th) to be held at, wait for it, 420 2nd Street in Eureka at the Buzzards Nest across from the Gazebo, and is scheduled to begin at, you guessed it, 4:20 p.m.
In 2011, Dell’Arte International premiered Mary Jane: The Musical at its annual Mad River Festival in Blue Lake. Partnering with 12 local songwriters, the play featured Humboldt County-centric characters facing various issues in the marijuana milieu. Quickly gained notoriety, the show was a sellout hit and at the time was the highest-grossing play in Dell’Arte’s 40-year history.
Wrote the Los Angeles Times, “Behind its original songs and humor, the play about marijuana cultivation is a bittersweet, multi-generational tale that celebrates the plant while laying bare the industry’s dark side.”
In Mary Jane: A Musical Potumentary, Mary Jane (Dell’Arte’s Joan Schirle) leaves the wreckage of the Summer of Love and lands in northern California’s Humboldt County, where the hippie becomes a back-to-the-land farmer and helps establish the largest cannabis-producing region in the U.S. As she comes to terms with her life as grower and now mother – and on the eve of federal legislation – she must face down a corporate raider with limitless capital (Edward Asner), who plans to take over the industry. Can this female entrepreneur survive … Or will her career go up in smoke?
