| Dear Friends,|
Dell’Arte is still operating at a reduced capacity due to the pandemic and we would like to thank our community for the all of the support we are receiving as we move through this together. We are taking time to recalibrate and the necessary steps to weather the storm so that when we reopen at full capacity, we can do so with strength, perspective, and energy! In previous updates, we’ve announced that we will not be conducting our Professional Training Program this year to prioritize safety. Our 3rd year MFA students are busy at work, however, redesigning our annual Holiday Show tour for the times and we are excited to share their progress with you as they go!
We love our audiences and we want to include you in our redesign of the annual Holiday Show Tour, which has brought professional theatre to communities up and down the North Coast for over 40 years! Even if you’re reading from afar, we invite you to contribute your thoughts and ideas as well. Hive mind! How can we bring our production to you this year? Email our artists as they create this year’s Holiday Show – an adaptation of Hansel And Gretel.
SPOTLIGHT ON ALUMNI:
Our alumni all over the planet continue to amaze us as they engage the world around them with their artistry for better change. Idit Kischinovsky graduated from our MFA program in 2019. For the last several weeks, she has been attending protests in her home country of Israel with a mission to bring love and levity to the masses. Here are some words from Idit on her work:
“This clown is a police woman named ‘Straight to the Heart’. It means there is a woman in uniform that her duty is to listen to the hearts around her, to listen to her own heart, and to remind about the heart to each and everyone. She gives stickers of hearts to the crowd. She gives a spray with a potion of love (water) to anyone who wants. There are weekly big demonstrations in Jerusalem asking for change of the government and for change in general. It creates violence between the police and the citizens. The police is using force. Humor and love challenges power and uniform. She gets involved when there is violence trying to soften whats possible. At the beginning it was a bit frightening, not so much anymore. Moving towards healing.”
Way to go Idit! We wish safety and heart to all of those protesting and working for change in their own ways and take inspiration from your actions.

LIGHTS UP ON DELL’ARTE
Our Lighting Designer, Spike Foster, lit up Dell’Arte in red on September 1st for the RED ALERT DAY OF ACTION in solidarity with 1500 live performance spaces across the country who have joined in a movement to raise awareness around extending the RESTART Act. The event was initiated by #WeMakeEvents North America, a coalition of industry professional supported by trade bodies, businesses, unions, and non-profit associations. The RESTART act provides economic relief to the live events industry and the millions of workers affected by the COVID shutdown.
Live events employ over 12 million people in the US.
Live events contribute over $1 trillion annually to the US economy.
95% of live events have been cancelled due to COVID-19.
96% of companies have cut staff and/or wages.
77% of people in the live events industry have lost 100% of their income, including 97% of 1099 workers.

We’d like to share with you an article written by Dr. Issac M. Carter called “Mindful Allies: Being and Being With” to find some ground today in our collective work of undoing racism. “Your focus must remain fixed on listening, analyzing, and solving the problems at hand. Humility is central to the realization of our humanity.”
Dell’Arte is now in process with Coaching Imperative on a Racial Equity Audit and we are excited to share our updates with you as we go. Coaching Imperative helps individuals, teams and organizations by offering culturally responsive coaching that emphasizes adaptive leadership, cultural agility, critical education, and building mindful practices. We are working with co-founder Dr. Issac M. Carter throughout this next year and you can read more about our process on Dell’Arte’s new accountability webpage (in process!) here.

Last month, we opened up a direct line of communication with our community about our racial equity and accountability work by creating an email address you could reach us at: firstname.lastname@example.org. We thank all of those who wrote in and gave feedback, comments, and posed questions. We received a question about language used in a statement we sent out detailing some of our work…
