Dell’Arte 2nd Year MFA Students Present Community Based Arts Initiatives in Partnership with Humboldt Domestic Violence Services, Humboldt Literacy Project, and CASA

One of Dell’Arte International’s deepest values is engendering the relationship between art and place and artists in their community. As part of their MFA studies, students of the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre work with community partners to create original Community Based Arts Initiatives. 2016 marks the 13th consecutive year of these projects taking place in and around Humboldt County. This year, the 2nd year MFA students are working with Humboldt Domestic Violence Services, Humboldt Literacy Project, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), and EPIC (Environmental Protection Information Center).

Herstory – Celebrating Healthy Relationships

In collaboration with Humboldt Domestic Violence Services, Dell’Arte students will present Herstory – Celebrating Healthy Relationships for the public on Friday June 3, 2016. The performance will be held at the Bayside Grange located at 2297 Jacoby Creek Rd., in Bayside CA at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on site for a suggested donation of $10.

This is a first time collaboration between graduate students at Dell’Arte International and Humboldt Domestic Violence Services. Herstory is a performance created by four women from four different countries Anne Kjær Wæhrens (Denmark), Zafiria Dimitropoulou (Greece), Emilia Björk (Sweden) and Jenny Lamb (U.S.A.). It is a celebration of a year-long engagement with HDVS and their empowering commitment to offer resources and a safe haven for people living with or escaping from abuse.

Becky and Leroy’s Excellent Reading Adventure

Becky and Leroy’s Excellent Reading Adventure, a free, one-hour, interactive storytelling show for families with young children, will be held Wednesday, May 25, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Eureka Main Library, 1313 Third St., Eureka. The event is conceived and presented by 2nd year Dell’Arte MFA students Grayson Bradshaw (U.S.A.) and Jeesun Choi (South Korea), and done in collaboration with Humboldt Literary Project and the Library. The hosts of the evening “Becky” and “Leroy” will lead the audience through a series of exciting adventures, games, arts-and-crafts and book reading. The show will bring the children and parents to their feet to experience how reading is an active engagement of the imagination.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) 25th Anniversary Celebration

2nd year Dell’Arte MFA students Tushar Mathew (India), Tafadzwa Mutumbi (Zimbabwe), and Lucius Robinson (U.S.A.) have been working in partnership with the advocates of Humboldt CASA as well as children in the foster care system to create a an original performance and interactive gallery for CASA’s 25th Anniversary Celebration.
